Michael Carrick is all set be honoured with a testimonial at the end of the 2016/17 Premier League campaign, after 11 years of service at Manchester United, according to the latest reports.
The 35-year-old midfielder has enjoyed a glittering career at Old Trafford, winning five Premier League silverwares, an FA Cup, a League Cup and the Champions League.
And he still manages to hold his place in the Man United first team under Jose Mourinho.
After initially struggling to break into the squad, Carrick has appeared in 19 matches this season under the former Chelsea, Inter Milan and Real Madrid boss.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are rumoured to be Carrick’s most serious suitors with the Man United veteran seems heading for an Old Trafford exit.
Carrick’s current contract ends in the summer and Jose Mourinho has already dropped a hint that he is not willing to offer the 35-year-old another extension.
Sources close to Manchester United claim the club have already warned the Englishman he’ll have to take a pay cut to stay at Old Trafford next season.
The veteran midfielder was given a 12-month extension only a week into Jose Mourinho’s reign at Man United after looking likely to leave the club under Louis van Gaal.
Arsene Wenger is believed to be planning to enlist some midfield steel in the summer as concerns over Granit Xhaka’s suitability for the top flight of English football continue to linger.
Man United will let Carrick leave as a free agent at the end of the season after over ten years of service at Old Trafford.
Carrick previously played for another North London club, Tottenham before joining Man United in 2006.
